Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya
About
Situated just minutes from Playa del Carmen, the Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya (formerly known as Grand Coral Riviera Maya) snakes through dense Mayan jungle with scenic glimpses of the Caribbean Sea throughout. The designer, Nick Price, laid heavy emphasis on having the most minimal environmental impact as possible while still providing a fair and challenging round. He even employed a team of biologists and environmental consultants to determine how to minimize water consumption and protect the native wildlife. Price carefully preserved and incorporated the native vegetation into the golf course so that it blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. The dense jungle comes into play along the fairways, requiring some accuracy to maneuver or else you'll surely lose a ball. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking near the greens.

Nice course for Mexico
Was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the course given that it's in Mexico. We booked through Golfnow and got the super discounted rate so received good value for what we paid. The driving range was in great shape with good balls and the course was in very good condition...probably the best condition for what I've played in Mexico.
The course was very quiet with not many people playing so I can't comment on the pace of play (though the rating says "excellent").
The staff was very friendly and transported my playing partner and I back to our neighbouring resort each time we played or practiced. I would definitely play there again next time in Playa del Carmen.
Very nice setting - but better hit it straight
Very friendly staff, course is in excellent shape for the most part. Lots of sand, lots of water. Definitely a course for experienced and better players. If you aren't in the fairway, no sense looking for your ball. Awesome rental clubs - Taylor Made Speed Blades. My only criticism of the course is the decision to place the type of vegetation they did around the edges of the fairways. If you are 12 inches off the fairway on either side of most holes, you literally have no chance of finding your ball. Absolutely nasty stuff.
40 minute wait to tee off
The course was in decent shape as expected. My big problem was that I had booked a 8:20 am tee time and ended up getting off on the first tee at 9:00!!! When you are staying at a resort and playing earlymorningto get back to the beach and family you don't want an unnecessary 40 min delay.
I did not receive a reason for the delay - just a lot more time on the practice green.
Frustrating to spend the monetary have this type of experience.
I would go back to iberostar courses before considering grand coral. Much better value and they treat you extremely well.
Nice but very challenging
A very nice course, the front nine is very difficult for average or less than average golfers, although some of this may be from being from up north and not playing for a few months. The back nine played easier and was much more relaxing. One complaint for the money charged you have to pay extra for range balls.
Fun, Lush, Course
We had a group of 8 players. Back to back tee times. * sets of rental clubs. 4 -men's (1 lefty) & 4 women's. (New TaylorMade clubs)They were able to accommodate all our needs. Friendly staff, got us off on time. Had a great time. Oh yeah, the beer was good and cold as well! Glen Doyle (pro) was extremely nice and hospitable!!!! Can't wait to go back.
Golf in Playa del Carmen.
It was a perfect day to play golf in Playa del Carmen.
Nice weather, beatiful golf course, wonderful wildlife and frendly staff.
Get there early!
Although there will be a time change if you start at 1:40, you're going to barely make it through 18! But, we arrived an hour early, in fact, we walked from the Sandos Caracao resort where we stayed in about 15 mins with our clubs.
The course was just about what you'd expect for $100US but probably not whatever the rack rate was. Definitely worth the $75CDN we paid as we left Canada and a foot of snow!
I saw some comments about the all inclusive golf but we really only saw the cart guy a couple times a round, so unless you're big drinkers and getting your money's worth doesn't matter, I'd say just grab a couple from your resort and throw them in the coolers on the cart.
We left the clubs there as we booked a few days later and both times the cart guys gave us a ride back and we gave them a nice tip.
Nice course, poor staff inside
We played the Grand Coral twice the week of January 26th. We booked through Golf now for early morning tee times. Prior to our first round we called to make transportation arrangements and set up a 7:35 pick up at our resort. By 7:50 with no transportation in site we grabbed a taxi and went over. When we mentioned the problem they basically accused us of lying about setting up the ride. Then they informed us that because we booked with GolfNow transportation wouldn't have been uncluded anyways. The basic opinion of the inside staff was that every step that they had to do to check you in was a major task and took a good 10 min and was very uncomfortable experience.
Now, the staff outside was very friendly and made for a very good experience. The course is nice, but coming from New England and not having been able to plays for a few months made for a tougher experiance on the course. Out is out and you are not going to find your ball. A few holes have unseen ground cover that will ruin what you think is a good shot. Overall the course is good but sometimes unfair. I don't think I would come back to this course.
Much better value and treatment up at the Iberostar Paraiso,
Some staff need more training
Basically, some staff in the pro shop where you sign in need a lot of training. From my experience, they don't know what they are doing and just create delay and frustration.
The starter staff were however were very good.
The course itself is ok but nothing special. I had expected it to be more interesting. It is a mix of water and bunkers.
Nice Course and Getting Better
I played this course when it first opened, and a few times since, and it has been in better condition each year. Fairways have grown in, the greens have truer roll, and the bunkers are still the biggest challenge. Staff is consistently friendly and helpful. Nice place for a relaxed round.
A Little Slow
I found the layout to be quite challenging and the conditions were pretty good. Like all courses you need to pick a tee box that fits your game and the first hole is a perfect test (play the tee box that you can carry the straight away fairway bunker and you will enjoy the day. We did have a couple issues though our cart died on the third hole as the course was busy and we got a cart from a group who had just finished their round :( The pace of play was quite slow so we did not finish our round as we went off at 2:00pm in Nov. No complaints though as we got a good deal on Golfnow. I found the greens to be very slow for my liking but they all were consistent one to the next so it was fairly easy to adjust to.
I have seen some complaints about the rentals they were not the best but more than playable, there may only be a couple sets with stiff shafts so if that will bother you bring your own.
Beautiful
Great course in excellent condition and we played in less than 4 hours
Golf in cancun
This is a very well manicured course and would play again for the 60 I payed with golf now. Marshal got slow players to let us pass and finished in under 4 hours
Nice resort course
We played the course while on vacation at a nearby resort. Reserving the Golf Now package in advance saved us money. I played with my two sons and son-in-law. We had a great time and the free beer in the package was a bonus. The course was mostly in good shape except for a couple of holes that were under construction. The course was not overly difficult but challenging with water on many holes and extensive bunkers both around the greens and in the fairways..
Grand Coral
Booked on golf now this course is great value I payed $38 .Could do with more than 1 bottle of water included.
the staff kills the course
when you go to Grand Coral do not expect to be greeted by anyone on the staff. You are not greeted in the pro shop, you are not greeted by reception reception. The one stand out is Eduardo who is super friendly very helpful and a really nice guy. The course is beautiful. You will love the scenery and the greens are well kept. the fairways are wide. It's very player friendly unlike the staff. I will not play here again. If you do play this course be sure to buy the option for unlimited food and beverage on the course you will need it and appreciate it especially since Eduardo will be serving it to you. He helpful on every hole and gives you good information and is very friendly. Both of our carts needed to be changed out by the turn.
Nice open course, but no complimentary drinks
You can see the course very well from the T boxes. There ar. However, I found it to be a little bit boring My playing partner found this course to be just what he wanted. However, I found it to be a little bit boring. Many of the courses in Playa del Carmen all for you complimentary beverages and sandwiches. This one does not. Everything is ala carte.
Coral
Everything was great except for the rental clubs. Such a nice coarse and I paid $50.00 for rental clubs and the clubs themselves were probably worth 50.00. Please regrip the clubs. Especially the putter. Overall great coarse and friendly staff.
Nice course for the money
Cheapest course of this zone
Greens are slow and hard to stop the ball
Everything else is excellent
