Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya
About
Situated just minutes from Playa del Carmen, the Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya (formerly known as Grand Coral Riviera Maya) snakes through dense Mayan jungle with scenic glimpses of the Caribbean Sea throughout. The designer, Nick Price, laid heavy emphasis on having the most minimal environmental impact as possible while still providing a fair and challenging round. He even employed a team of biologists and environmental consultants to determine how to minimize water consumption and protect the native wildlife. Price carefully preserved and incorporated the native vegetation into the golf course so that it blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. The dense jungle comes into play along the fairways, requiring some accuracy to maneuver or else you'll surely lose a ball. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking near the greens.

Congrats to Nick Price
For creating a very enjoyable golf course. In fact, its really (really) good.
Some of the holes on the back have blind-sided shots .. .so having local knowledge helps.
Poor shape
Very disappointed with condition of course for $122. Tee boxes and fairways had some spotty conditions and greens had the same issue. First 2 bottles of water were free then $3 each. No water on the course so you were forced to buy the water. Played Iberostar 2 days prior and there is no comparison. Iberostar conditions and staff were top notch and and was less expensive. Oh, and they charge you for use of the range for a bucket of balls. Would not go back.
Grand Coral is GOOD.
Played this course several times now and it is a fun course with some challenge: water, sand and jungle. Course was not busy and is in great shape. Weather is sometimes very warm.
Good course nicely kept
Friendly staff, good course, good conditions. Pace was slow for resort golf.
Bring extra water
The course was beautiful and not at all busy. We opted not to purchase the all inclusive cart service since we could buy off of the beverage cart when we needed to. Unfortunately, we only saw the cart two times our entire round. It was mid day so we were pretty hot and dehydrated which led to a poor back nine. The facility is fairly new and has some maturing to do but should only get better in time.
Great Value
I booked a $75.00 tee time at 12:30 on Golf Now. This is a nicely laid out course and perfect for the average golfer. My son-in-law liked it so much we played it 3 times during our vacation
Nice Track
Really nice track and great staff. Enjoyed 3 rounds in 5 days.
Not worth the money
The staff needs a course in customer service. As I walked through the door, the young lady behind the desk pointed to the pro shop without a good morning or hello. The cart attendant was not much better.
The practice facility was good , however range balls were not included in the $175 price. Every course I have played in Mexico all included range balls.
I found the front nine to be top dressed with way too much sand with no mention of the conditions in the pro shop. Greens of course were barlely puttable. Fairways and tee boxes were ok but very much in need of time to grow.. The back nine was not top dresses and I found the greens a little better...
There are many better choices in Riviera Maya.
just OK
The rental clubs they offer are very poor, not ping as advertised. Taylor Made with very worn grips, not impressed. Course condition is very good. Nice Layout. Very Scenic. Challenging course, not much room for error. Im an average golfer, i enjoyed it but my slice and some bad shots really got me in trouble. I would recommend this course but use your own clubs!!!!!!!!!!!
great greens and condition
Course was in super condition. Greens were fast and in very good shape. Relatively flat lay out with many bunkers in play as well as water in play on a few holes. Fun course, won't beat you up but still a challenge. Pay for the $27 all inclusive beverage cart. Gabino was excellent! Nice chat with Jack after the round; a fellow Canuck who works there. Glenn Doyle, the pro from Canada as well was very helpful.
First time's a charm
I have to say I found the course to be great shape, I spent perhaps a little longer on the driving range and practice green due to a slight delay in the start, but once I was off it was great fun. I played as a single, off the back tees and managed to get round in less than 3 1/2 hours would have been quicker but I was playing so well (shot a 79 - not bad for 10-11 handicap) I caught up a chap in front of me (last four holes were slower) . Greens were firm and perhaps not as fast on other courses, but rolled true. Fairways were in good shape as were the tee boxes, all in all a good deal if you play off peak and secure a tee time through golf now.
Great course
I love this course. It is all laid out in front of you--no hidden traps off the tee etc. Golf in Mexico is so ridiculously expensive but I got a reasonable hot special on GolfNow. For an extra $25 paid at the course you can get an all inclusive deal and eat and drink as much as you want during your round. The day I played the course was a little soft and it poured with rain for the last 3 holes. However, the course drains really well. The greens are very fair unlike the ghastly Playa Paraiso/Pete Dye's elephant hump up the road!
Nice course, worth the trip
I played here 3 times on nov 7,10,&11th. My index is 6.1 and am a member of a Troon run facility, so have high expectations and used to great conditions. Overall I was satisfied with both the conditions and pace of play. The fairways are generous, but bunkers off the tee will catch an off line shot. Greens are big and slow. Probally ran at a 8-9, but understand they were recently punched and sanded a few weeks back. Bunker sand is very fine and a treat. Wife played with me twice and she liked it as well. The head pro was also very friendly and seemed to keep a close eye on things. The course is new, so I bet it will be a great track when it matures in a few years.
Great value for the area!
I've played a few courses in the Riviera Maya area and this course is the best value for the money. Course was in very god condition and the price was attractive. We were able to pay the twilight rate and tee off at 8 am.
Well maintained but the greens were at about a five stimpwise
Need a course map and the available map does not show the tricks the designer put in. Pleasant though and very near where we stayed. promising course but greens were extremely slow, ruining the overall experience. Cost of items in the pro shop were out of line.
Amazing jungle golf experience
A truly unique experience.
Great Course!
Great Service!
$25 All-Inclusive optional add-on (sandwiches, snacks, burgers, hot dogs, beers, sodas, waters, poweraid, shots, mixed drinks) Well worth it!
They will also pick you up and take you back to your resort if you give them 24 hours notice.
I just booked a time for next week, and noticed on my GolfNow confirmation email it indicates "taxes not included." Did they ask for any additional costs when you checked in to play? Thanks
